When ballots were sent out in the fall of 2013, we had 46 chart members still receiving ballots. Each Charter member received 2 ballots, as do Family members. Because of this – there can be a large discrepancy between the number of ballots that are sent out and our actual membership count. For example, in the fall of 2013, we had a total of 117 members (49 adult, 46 charter, 22 family), but sent out 253 ballots. Due to a decline in the number of Charter members*, the number of members that receive 2 ballots has decreased over time, while our actual membership numbers have increased. Also note that Youth members are not counted in these numbers – these numbers are based on voting membership only.

This year (fall of 2020), we have a total of 203 members, including 129 adults, 11 charter and 63 family memberships.

277 ballots were sent out.

We have seen relatively steady growth over the years, with our actual annual paid membership (not including charter or youth) growing from 71 in 2013 to 192 in 2020.

Fall 2013 – 117

Fall 2014 - 127

Fall 2015 – 128

Fall 2016 – 205 (this number is based on newsletters and therefor includes youth membership, so is higher than actual voting membership.

All goats that are participating in the test will be milked out under supervision on Friday evening August 16th at 8:00pm. That will start the test. The first sample will be weighed at 8:00am on Saturday morning after the show and the final sample will be weighed on Saturday evening August 17th at 8:00pm. Please make sure your goats have legible tattoos as these need to be verified for the test. Weight results will be available after the final milk out with lab results for protein and butterfat to follow after lab analysis. This is a great opportunity for feedback on your milk components with a chance for your doe to earn a star. Please consider joining us!

The first registered Kinder goats were bred by Pat, and she has been an active breeder and member of the KGBA every since. Pat was always very generous with her time and knowledge, and was integral to the creation and success of our the Kinder goat and the association.

Pat was more than just her goats, though... she was an accomplished artist. She saw beauty in everything and represented it in a wide range of media, including everything from textiles to soap. She was a woman with strong feelings about the world around her, and she stood up for what she believed in. She will be dearly missed by the many people who's lives she has touched.

Our hearts go out to Pat and all of her friends and family.
Unfortunately, there was a mistake on them. We have two members running for our open Member at Large position. Their bios were included in the most recent newsletter, as were the ballots. The bio accurately reflects the names of both candidates, but the ballot does not. Please note the Travis Johnson was incorrectly listed as Travis Durham on the ballot. These are the same person. Our deepest apologies to Travis and our members for any confusion this may have caused.

With the continued expansion of our member base, and Kinder goats becoming more popular by the day, we realized the need for an updated Region Map. It's not too different from the old one, but should be a great way to help members develop community with other Kinder owners and breeders in their area! To further this goal, we are also rolling out KGBA sanctioned Facebook groups in order to facilitate growth and networking among members and members-to-be! Each group will adopt the same group rules and guidelines as the main umbrella group, Kinder Goat Folks, in order to maintain a civil and upbeat group where all are welcome! Each group will also have at least one Board member as an Admin in case of emergency, but will be primarily admin'd by someone local to that region. Additional intent for these groups is to ensure that information about Kinder goats, opportunities for Kinder owners and breeders, communications from the KGBA BOD, etc, will be accurate and reliable. There may be other unofficial groups that claim to encourage growth and development of Kinders, but those not run or monitored by the association may not be accurate or credible. Please do not assume that claims, comments, or advice, made in other groups reflect the views of the KGBA, or discussions in unofficial groups will be seen or addressed by Board members.

Here is the updated Region Map

If you have been an active member since March 1st of this year and are interested in helping the association, please consider volunteering for a board position.
Board members attend monthly board meetings via conference call, take part in various committees and work to promote the Kinder goat in accordance to our bylaws. Specific descriptions of each position can be found at www.kindergoatbreeders.com/bylaws.html
The elected term is 1-3 years, with directors spending an average of 5-10 hours a month managing the affairs of the association. All positions are volunteer and therefor unpaid positions. If interested, please contact us at kindergoatbreeders@gmail.com before September 24th. Please include a short (no more than half-page) bio to be included with ballots when expressing interest in candidacy. Hopefully we will see new faces with new ideas on the upcoming ballots!Sue Beckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08309105936903082859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3522808723968491976.post-68504121712185866532018-06-02T08:56:00.001-07:002018-06-02T08:56:03.791-07:00Rushing Paperwork We have had a number of people recently request that their paperwork be rushed for shows or sales. While we try to honor all of these requests and do everything we can to assist our breeders in selling and showing their Kinders, we can’t always do so.

Spring and summer are busy times of year for everyone including the volunteers that handle KGBA paperwork. As an association made up entirely of volunteers, we do not offer rushing paperwork as a service because we cannot always guarantee that we will be able to fill these rush requests. All paperwork goes through a two-step process in order to ensure accuracy, and this process takes time as well as manpower. With our limited volunteer base, things can be delayed by the illness or vacation of one volunteer. This is why we recommend getting paperwork in as soon as possible. If for some reason you do need paperwork rushed, we ask that you contact the KGBA directly PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR PAPERWORK to find out if your request can be filled. Requests are handled on a case by case basis, depending on many factors. Even when we agree to try to return your paperwork quickly, getting things back to you by a specific day is never guaranteed.

Normally, paperwork is processed in the order in which it is received, so asking for things to be rushed inevitably slows down the process for other people’s paperwork. Please keep this in mind and be considerate when making special requests.

Thank you for your cooperation,
John has been working tirelessly to create a youth program for the KGBA. The program will include many fun and educational opportunities for youth members of the association, one being the doe chain described in the article. For more information about the Doe Chain or the Yourh Program in general, please contact John James at fallfirefarm@gmail.com.
Kinder shows always have many great participants that are happy to help new exhibitors, and we often hold free clinics on a broad range of husbandry and healthcare topics. I encourage everyone to attend a show this year - with or without your goats!

The following is a current list of Sanctioned shows for 2018. We will post announcements on additional shows as soon as they are sanctioned. If you have questions about upcoming shows or getting your own show sanctioned, please contact our show director, Kelsee Gibbs, at kelseegibbs@yahoo.com.
This is great for the breed! It gives owners and breeders, as well as the Association a fantastic look at the hard, verifiable data at the quality and quantity of the milk our Kinders produce. While our hard working girls earn their Stars on their own merit, many people are unaware of how bucks can earn their Stars and Pluses based on Milk Test data. Here are the following rules regarding the awarding of Star and Plus designations, taken from the KGBA DHIR Program;
For those of you with early generation animals, Star Awards are carried down from their Nubian ancestors if applicable.

In my observations, we have yet to have many Kinder bucks venture into Star or Plus awards, but with the renewed interest in Milk Test, I foresee that changing very soon! While it's easy to focus on getting our girls their Stars based on their own tenacity - lets not forget about the boys! If you believe your buck may qualify for a *B (based on ancestry) or +B/++B (based on progeny) either through current or past Milk Test data, please let us know! We would love to recognize your buck's hard working pedigrees and accomplishments!

of Vice President for 4 years, the last 3 consecutive. We have an incredible
member base, and it's a pleasure to serve them in their goals to pursue all
that the Kinder goat has to offer! Moving forward I'd like to assist in
accomplishing breed improvement programs. Between getting more Kinders on Milk
Test, establishing an Evaluation/Appraisal program, further documenting their
efficient meat capabilities, etc. We have the best breed in the world, and one
of the most committed and enthusiastic breeder bases! So I'd love nothing more
than to enable our members to prove these awesome goats are just as good as we
say they are :)

Mahoning County Junior Fair in Canfield, Ohio for over 20 years and have worked
as an Agricultural Educator at Mill Creek MetroParks teaching school children
about agriculture for over 15 years. 28 years ago, I decided I wanted a
dual purpose goat that could be used for milk and provide meat on our farm that
I could raise with my family. With much research, I found this newly
developed breed know as the Kinder Goat and fell in love. With my
husband's experience as a Dairy Specialist for Coba/Select Sires, we developed
several lines of our own as our foundation herd and worked diligently to
improve our herd as we bred and moved through the generations each year.
Over 20 years ago, I established a Kinder Goat Junior Fair Show at our
county fair. I have worked with others to help establish new herds and to
promote the Kinder Goats in Ohio, as well as other states. I have worked
with local youth members who have expressed interest in the Kinder Goats and
have started them off by purchasing their first youth memberships and
registering their Kinder Goats purchased at my farm. My children have had
the opportunity to show, raise and fall in love with the Kinder Goats on our
farm, and now are all in college. Now, I would like to offer my
experience, knowledge, talents and new found empty nest time to help with the
promotion of the Kinder Goats and the Association. I would like to be a

Have you ever considered running for a position on the KGBA board? If so, now is the time!

The KGBA nominating committee is currently accepting volunteers and recommendations for the annual election. Any person holding an individual membership effective as of March 1st is eligible to be a candidate or recommend another for a position.

Thinking about running? Please consider your decision carefully - becoming a board member is a wonderful way to help our Association grow and improve and we want all the help we can get, but it takes time and commitment to make things happen! Directors serve without compensation. The elected term is 1-3 years, with directors spending an average of 5-10 hours a month managing the affairs of the association.

Board members attend monthly board meetings via conference call, take part in various committees and work to promote the Kinder goat in accordance to our bylaws. Specific descriptions of each position can be found at www.kindergoatbreeders.com/bylaws.html

If you would like to volunteer or nominate someone else for a position, please contact us via email at frankenmonk@gmail.com prior to September 20th. Please consider submitting a half-page bio (to be included with ballots) when you express your interest in becoming a candidate.

The Missouri State Fair has one of the few shows currently sanctioned by the Kinder Goat Breeders Association. It took years of hard work and dedication to make this show a reality, and it has become the longest running annual Kinder show in the world. Unfortunately, we now risk losing this show for lack of participation.

At this point, entries for all classes will be considered late and incur an additional late fee, but in order to encourage more entries the KGBA is also offering to reimburse breeders for any late entry fees, and assist our members in any other ways that we can. Have a question or concern? Please don't hesitate to contact Leah Rennick, Lisa LaRose or myself.

Late entries will only be accepted until the end of this month, so please register quickly if you would like to help us make this show a success.

Occasionally issues arise within an association that warrant address by the Board of Directors. When issues do occur, it is important that all parties be treated equitably and without prejudice. By clearly outlining the policies and procedures used to address issues, we hope to ensure the fair treatment of all of our members.

It
is anticipated that most issues can be resolved at local level between the
parties involved, ie between members themselves, or with the assistance of
another member, Chapter Leader or individual Board member. For individuals
uncomfortable addressing an issue directly, a complaint can also be sent to any
Board member and addressed informally while maintaining complainant’s anonymity.
The sooner an issue is raised informally the better as it can often be resolved
quickly and in a low key manner.

The Kinder Goat Breeders

standards of honesty, good will and integrity. The KGBA and its members have a

moral values must be certain and positive so that others will be influenced by
our example. This code applies to all members that breed and sell Kinder goats
as well as those attending KGBA events, discussions, meetings, and using social
media. Violating our Code of Conduct demeans the integrity of our Association
and devalues our goats and our purpose. Violating the KGBA Code of Conduct may

If you are a current member of the Kinder Goat Breeders Association, you have recently received a Bylaw Amendment Proposal in the mail. If changes to the KGBA bylaws are made, they will affect the Association for years to come and should not be taken lightly. The Board of Directors has carefully considered whether or not these changes are truly needed, and and we unanimously agree that they are necessary and beneficial to the association. We ask that you consider them as carefully as we have, - ask questions, have discussions and consider how they will affect the entire association now and in the future. Once you have made your decision, please vote! The success of our association depends on the interest and involvement of our membership.

KGBA BYLAW
AMENDMENT PROPOSAL

To remain a vital and relevant non-profit
organization, the KGBA must be adaptable, exchanging practices that don’t work
for ones that do. At times, it becomes necessary to amend or change
the bylaws to reflect working precedents set by past administrations, and to allow
the association to run more smoothly and effectively in years to come.

Accordingly, the Board is advancing several bylaw proposals this
year. What follows are the existing bylaws in question and the
changes that are being proposed. The KGBA Board of Directors has approved the
proposed bylaw changes, and is presenting them for consideration by the general
membership of the Kinder Goat Breeders Association. Please note that any
changes to the bylaws require a majority vote of members.
